Thrombophlebitis
๐Overview
This condition involves the development of a thrombus, or blood clot, which leads to inflammation within the affected vein. While it often occurs in superficial veins located just under the skin, it can also involve deeper venous structures.
Medical terminology may differentiate between superficial involvement and deep vein thrombosis depending on the location of the clot. The inflammatory process and subsequent blockage are most commonly observed in the lower extremities.
