This zoonotic disease, also referred to as rabbit fever or deer fly fever, may be contracted through direct contact with infected animals or via bites from certain insects. Transmission can also occur through the inhalation of contaminated aerosols or the consumption of tainted food and water.
While the condition is considered uncommon, it represents a serious clinical concern. The bacterium is highly infectious, and the specific clinical presentation often depends on the route of exposure.
